Laser Hair Removal for All Skin Tones in Calgary

Older lasers and IPL couldn't safely treat darker skin. Our 4-wavelength diode with 1064nm Nd:YAG changes that — effective, comfortable laser hair removal for every skin tone in Calgary.

Peach Lasers safely treats all six Fitzpatrick skin types, including dark and tanned skin, using a 4-wavelength Diode Laser. Its 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength bypasses surface melanin to target the follicle directly, so darker complexions that older lasers and IPL couldn't safely treat get effective, comfortable results at $49 per area.

How is laser hair removal safe for dark skin?

It's safe because our diode fires a longer 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength that penetrates past the melanin in the skin and targets the pigment in the follicle instead.

The risk with darker skin has always been that the laser can't tell the difference between pigment in the hair and pigment in the skin — older single-wavelength devices and IPL would heat the skin's melanin and risk burns or discoloration. The 1064nm wavelength has a deeper penetration profile and much lower absorption by surface melanin, so the energy reaches the follicle without overheating the skin.

Our system fires four wavelengths at once (755nm, 808nm, 940nm, 1064nm), and the AI calibration weights them toward the safest, most effective mix for your specific Fitzpatrick type.

Which Fitzpatrick skin types can you treat?

We treat all six Fitzpatrick skin types, from very fair (I) to deeply pigmented (VI).

Fitzpatrick I–III (fair to light-medium) respond quickly, and Fitzpatrick IV–VI (olive, brown, and dark skin) are treated safely and effectively thanks to the 1064nm wavelength and AI-tuned energy settings. During your consultation we assess your skin tone and hair type precisely so the treatment is dialed in from the very first session.

Why is IPL a bad choice for darker skin?

IPL scatters broad-spectrum light that's heavily absorbed by skin melanin, making it ineffective and potentially unsafe on darker complexions.

Because IPL isn't a true laser, it can't focus a single wavelength deep into the follicle. On darker skin, that broad light targets surface pigment and risks burns, hyperpigmentation, or hypopigmentation — while delivering weak results. A 1064nm-capable diode laser is the recognized standard for treating darker skin safely.

Can I get laser hair removal if I'm tanned?

Yes, but we assess a fresh tan carefully and adjust settings, since recently tanned skin has elevated surface melanin.

If you've had recent sun exposure or used self-tanner, let us know — we may adjust the energy or recommend waiting for a fresh tan to settle. The 1064nm wavelength gives us far more flexibility with tanned skin than older lasers, but caution keeps results safe and comfortable.

All-skin-tones laser hair removal FAQs

Is laser hair removal safe for Black or brown skin in Calgary?
Yes. Our 4-wavelength diode includes the 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength, the recognized standard for safely and effectively treating Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin, including Black and brown complexions.
Will laser cause hyperpigmentation on my skin?
When the correct wavelength and settings are used for your skin tone, the risk is very low. Our AI calibration and 1064nm wavelength are specifically designed to protect darker skin from the pigment changes older lasers could cause.
Does laser work on all hair colours?
Laser works best on hair with pigment — black, brown, and dark red. Very light blonde, grey, or white hair has little melanin to target and responds poorly, regardless of skin tone.
How much does treatment cost?
Every area is $49 per session on a $199/year membership, with your first session free — the same transparent pricing for every skin tone.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients reach 90%+ permanent reduction in about 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, across all skin tones.
Do you do a patch test for darker skin?
Yes. For darker or reactive skin we can perform a patch test and start conservatively, then adjust energy upward as we confirm how your skin responds.
