Laser Hair Removal for Dark Skin Tones in Calgary

Our 4-wavelength system (755nm, 808nm, 940nm, 1064nm) at 2,500 watts safely treats all six Fitzpatrick skin types. Learn why the 1064nm wavelength is a game-changer for darker and tanned skin.

By Peach Lasers YYC

Historically, laser hair removal was considered unsafe for people with darker skin tones because older single-wavelength systems (particularly Alexandrite lasers at 755nm) could not distinguish between melanin in the hair follicle and melanin in the surrounding skin, leading to burns and hyperpigmentation.

Peach Lasers in Calgary has solved this problem using a 4-wavelength Diode Laser that fires 755nm, 808nm, 940nm, and 1064nm wavelengths simultaneously at 2,500 watts. The 1064nm wavelength is the key differentiator: it belongs to the Nd:YAG class of laser wavelengths, which penetrates deeper into the skin and bypasses surface melanin entirely to target the melanin deep within the hair follicle.

This makes it safe and effective for all six Fitzpatrick skin types (Type I through Type VI), including people with deeply pigmented, tanned, or olive skin. The system's AI scanner automatically detects the client's skin type and adjusts the ratio of wavelength power distribution accordingly. For darker skin types, the system increases the proportion of 1064nm energy while reducing 755nm output.

Combined with the triple-cooling system that protects the skin surface, this technology allows Peach Lasers to achieve the same 90 percent or greater permanent hair reduction results across all skin tones that were previously only achievable on lighter skin.
